Peering out onto the banks of the seasonal Timbavati River, under the shelter of dense indigenous trees, Ngala Tented Camp is a tranquil retreat in a spectacular setting. Hear the monkeys scrambling around before you close your eyes, or an occasional roar in the night, some not even so far away. Situated in the Timbavati Game Reserve, which lies just west of the Greater Kruger National Park and shares unfenced borders, is this haven for nature seekers; impossible not to love. There will be candlelight and starry-eyed evenings, where you reminisce about the amazing wildlife you experienced that day.

This classic African safari accommodation includes nine elegantly appointed canvas tents, raised on wooden platforms. Constructed with a light footprint, each tent was cleverly designed to incorporate the existing canopy of trees. The deluxe tents include large gauze screen windows and stone partitions; oversized bath tubs opening to the outdoor leafy surrounds, an outdoor shower, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, hairdryer, electric blanket for chilly winter nights and private wooden deck with views to the riverbed. The contemporary guest area also overlooks the riverbed, which seems to merge with the lap pool. There is plenty of deck space for spotting wildlife, a lounge and dining area, open fireplaces and a small safari shop completes the picture.

The Ngala Private Game Reserve is well known for its high densities of elephants, buffalo, wild dogs and rhinos. During the morning and afternoon game drive, the experienced trackers and rangers at Ngala Tented Camp will go to their extremes to give you a meet-and-greet with a member of the Big Five, and any other habitants of this African bush. Or use all your senses during a thrilling bush walk, you will be surprised how much there is to discover on an even a small piece of African safari land. At night, the world changes. Other animals rule the bush. Smells are different and nocturnal creatures fight over the loudest solo in the orchestra. A spotlighted night safari is an unforgettable experience. This place will always have a special place in my heart. My wife and I spent 4 nights here during our African Honeymoon. It was a thrilling oasis. The recently renovated rooms and grounds are the essence of luxury. This is only rivaled by the staff's service, all of whom you feel like your safari family by the end the stay. Promise (Butler), Selbey (Bartender), Ernie (Tracker), Marcus (Guide) and Oscar (Head Chef) were all highlights of our stay.
